Stephen Wicks Questions Humanity’s Future With a Powerful Rock Reflection on a World in Crisis

At an age when many people begin to slow down, Stephen Wicks is proving that creativity has no deadline.

The 74-year-old singer-songwriter has taken a remarkable journey from the corporate world to the recording studio, transforming decades of professional experience into music with a message. His latest release, “The Doomsday Clock (85 Seconds To Midnight)”, explores some of the biggest concerns facing the modern world and asks listeners to reflect on the future we are creating.

Inspired by the symbolic Doomsday Clock from the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the track captures a sense of urgency surrounding issues such as climate change, artificial intelligence, global instability and the challenges facing future generations.

Rather than simply focusing on fear, Wicks uses songwriting as a way to process the uncertainty of the times we live in. The result is a dramatic rock track built around powerful lyrics, intense instrumentation and a cinematic atmosphere.

Wicks’ path into music is anything but ordinary. After a successful career as an entrepreneur and corporate executive, he decided to dedicate himself fully to songwriting and recording — showing that it is never too late to follow a creative ambition.

For his latest project, Wicks worked with acclaimed British producer George Shilling, whose previous credits include collaborations with artists such as Blur, Primal Scream and Steve Winwood. Bringing together experience from different worlds, the release combines the discipline of a business career with the honesty and emotion of an artist searching for meaning.

Lead guitar on the recording comes from Stefan Hauk, adding another layer of energy to a track designed to feel both urgent and reflective.

Speaking about Wicks’ approach, producer George Shilling describes the song as more than a personal creative project — it is a musical wake-up call, driven by the desire to address the challenges facing humanity.

The accompanying music video brings the concept of the ticking clock to life, reflecting the fragility of the world around us and the choices that shape what comes next.

With “The Doomsday Clock (85 Seconds To Midnight)”, Stephen Wicks delivers a reminder that new chapters can begin at any stage of life — and sometimes the most important messages come from those who have spent a lifetime watching the world change.
